Design, construction and utilisation guidance for sets, scenery
and props
The Team
In BBC programmes it is the
Producer who is ultimately responsible for the
production.
The Producer will engage a
Designer who will then engage a
Construction team.
Depending on where the set is going to end up
(studio or location) this might involve Studio Resource
managers or Location Personnel.
The utilisation of the set, in particular the
setting/striking of the set, may also include a Set and
Strike team.
The local Safety Advisor
should also be involved at conception.
Any members of this team may be
freelancers, or contractors and
possibly sub-contractors. They must all be
made aware of the BBC safety procedures, advice and guidance.
Checking Competence, Responsibility and
Training
Responsibilities for the safety of TV
production sets or scenery rests between the Producer, the Designer
and the Construction team. It is crucial that they
communicate and share their requirements, intentions, plans,
decisions and safety information between themselves and others that
may be affected.
The Producer is responsible for the overall
safety of any production. In design terms this means appointing a
competent designer and construction team.
Anyone in a position to influence the design
should have the competence to do so in respect of understanding the
Health and Safety implications of their designs, decisions and
impact of their completed designs on the production process.
