Environmental Risk Register
Procedure Requirements
This is the procedure by which an Environmental
Risk Register, Objectives and Action Plan are to be
developed. This table outlines the steps required to develop
a Corporate and Divisional Environmental Risk Register, Objectives
and Action Plan.
Identification of Corporate
Environmental Risks
The BBC Safety department identifies the Corporate environmental risks for all BBC activities, products and services which could have an impact, positive or negative, on the environment. These are documented within the 'Corporate Environmental Risk Register'.

Identification of Divisional
Environmental Risks
BBC Divisions identify the environmental risks for all BBC activities, products and services that are applicable to their operations. These are documented in the 'Divisional Environmental Risk Register', which is owned by the manager of each Division or Business Unit, as outlined in the core responsibilities defined in myRisks. A Division may use the Corporate Register as a template, removing any risks irrelevant to local operations and including any additional risks that are identified. Any risks recording in a Divisional Register that is not included in the Corporate Register the division should notify BBC Safety.

Evaluation of Environmental Risks for Significance
Environmental risks are evaluated for significance through a Risk Assessment process. The process takes into account the likelihood of an impact occurring and the severity of the impact. Significant environmental risks must be controlled through an operational or monitoring procedure (see control measures), or via Action Plans linked to objectives and targets.
Control Measures
For each significant risk identified, and those that are affected by environmental legislation, a means of control must be identified. The control measure must be documented within the "Description of Control Standards" and "Description of Operation Controls" columns of the register. A single control procedure may relate to more than one risk and similarly a single risk may be covered by more than one control measure. The controls required by the BBC Safety System's technical standards and guidelines will be included in the Corporate Risk Register.

It is the responsibility of the appropriate personnel to ensure that control procedures are implemented and to provide ongoing assurance that such controls are maintained and improved upon to support this.
