Environmental Legal Register
Objective, Layout and Format
Objective
The register is designed to allow all who need
access to this, to easily identify legislative requirements
relevant to the activities carried out by the organisation, and to
summarise and document the main compliance requirements and any
associated records, controls etc. that the BBC has put in place to
achieve compliance.
It forms part of the BBC's broader
Environmental Management System (EMS), a structured system for
managing and minimising the BBC's potential environmental risks and
impacts.
Layout and Format of the
Register
Each law is grouped by the particular environmental risk topic it addresses. These categories are as follows:
Each law is grouped by the particular environmental risk topic it addresses. These categories are as follows:
- Air pollution;
- Built environment and Planning;
- Energy management;
- Environmental nuisance;
- Heritage;
- Land contamination;
- Natural environment and wildlife;
- Oil and chemical management;
- Waste management;

- Other Requirements
It is then summarised, along with a brief
description of the main compliance requirements. If the
compliance requirements cannot be adequately summarised, the user
will be directed to the full description of the
Regulation.
A 'rating' (describing the applicability and
nature of the requirements) is applied to each piece of legislation
to give an idea of how the requirements apply in practice and how
they are enforced. Full details are contained on the front
sheet of the Register.
The Regulator and any related UK/EC legislation
is also provided for each regulation, and a detailed summary of the
functions of each regulating body is provided in the 'Enforcement
Authorities' section.
