Packaging Regulations
Definitions

BBC Group - Divisions and teams that are part of the BBC Homeservice and Worldservice.
 
Compliance Year - a term used in the regulations applying to a calendar year, during which an organisation must be registered with the Environment Agency.
 
Fair Trading Department - Part of the legal team in the Operations Group, responsible for ensuring the BBC's compliance with fair trading laws.
 
Identified Responsible Person (IRP) - an identified person in a division who has responsibility for checking the division's data and providing assurance to the Fair Trading Department that the data is representative of the division's activities.
 
Packaging Compliance Scheme (PCS) - a compliance scheme that is managed by a recycling company. The scheme assists with registrations with the Environment Agency and issues Packaging Recovery Notes to allow organisations to meet their obligations.
 
Packaging Consultant - an organisation that holds a database of packaging weights and transforms the number of items sold into a weight of packaging.
 
Packaging Recovery Note (PRNs) - a 'tradable' note issued by a packaging recycling company to confirm that one tonne of material (e.g. cardboard) has been recycled. Organisations buy PRNs to meet their obligations to recover certain targets of material.
