Packaging Regulations
Key Points

  • The BBC 'Group' and BBC Worldwide must register independently with a Packaging Compliance Scheme before April every year.
  • Divisions in the BBC 'Group' (e.g. Vision, Audio and Music) must account for all prizes and merchandise that they give away to the public. These figures (converted into total figures for each material) must be reported to the packaging compliance scheme.
  • BBC Worldwide must account and submit returns to the Packaging Compliance Scheme (PCS) for the packaging associated with all its products across all of its subsidiaries and joint ventures. It should consider its operations as a 'seller' and a 'packer/ filler'.
  • Both BBC 'Group' and BBC Worldwide must buy sufficient Packaging Recovery Notes to cover the applicable packaging recovery targets.
  • Once returns have been made to the Packaging Compliance Scheme a review and data checking exercise should be conducted to correct any errors and omissions. It is recommended this is carried out in July every year.
