Packaging Regulations
Guidance for BBC commercial divisions and subsidiaries

This section of the guidance is targeted at the commercial divisions and subsidiaries of the BBC that sell packaged items to consumers. Examples include BBC Worldwide, its subsidiary companies and majority owned joint venture companies such as '2-Entertain Ltd'. These divisions are involved with the packaging and selling of merchandise. Under the regulations, they are obligated both as 'packer/ filler' and 'seller'.

The commercial division must select and register with the most appropriate Packaging Compliance Scheme (PCS) for their business independent of the central BBC. A number of PCSs are available, details can be found on the DEFRA registered compliance schemes web page.

To comply with the requirements of the PCS, the division must collect and return weight/ volume data on the following activities and return these figures in line with the requirements of the selected PCS.

The BBC commercial divisions must provide reassurance to the BBC 'Group' that all their obligations have been met.
