Work Equipment
Operation

Arrangements need to be in place for the operation of plant and work equipment.  This applies to plant and work equipment which the BBC owns and / or uses, including hired equipment.  The arrangements will be specified within the individual Divisional statement of arrangements.

Operating plant and equipment
  • Plant and equipment must only be operated by competent persons working to a safe system of work.
  • If the equipment belongs to the BBC then it can only be operated by trained and competent staff or by third parties who have satisfied the BBC of their competence and it is contractually agreed.
  • Where equipment such as, vehicle jacks are used and personnel have to work under the jacked item, additional safety measures should be in place in case of failure.  This may be the automatic locking of the jacking system in the event of hydraulic failure for example. The equipment should be able to fail to safe.
