Power distribution on Location

For very small-scale use of electricity, such as plugging in a light, the minimum control to be applied must be the use of an RCD between the socket and the appliance. Otherwise:
  • the power source must be checked for presence and correct polarity of live, neutral and earth connections before plugging in or connecting equipment;
  • wherever the BBC consumes electrical power the suitability of the supply to meet the demands must be assessed including the power requirements of other consumers at the location;
    where more than one power source is in use at a location, or
  • there are several substantial consumers, dangerous voltage differences can develop and to avoid confusion on how to isolate a particular item, either [a] there must be one nominated competent person who plans and manages the power distribution, or [b] there must be absolute segregation of the systems.
Cables must not be rigged or de-rigged whilst 'live'.
