Common Questions

How can I get the health and safety training I require?  Your line manager can help determine the training you require; your Safety Advisor can also help with this. Training and Development can advise on the best and most cost effective way for you to receive that training.

I think my work station is causing me problems; where can I get help?
The Working with Computers section on myRisks information on gateway you can get advice on adjusting your work station correctly, as well as desk exercises.  The online DSE Assessment should be completed by all staff using computers.  In the event of health issues escalating, your line manager can refer you to Occupational Health.

I've had an accident at work; what do I need to do?
All accidents must be reported to your Safety Advisor.  It will be best to get your line manager to do this.  The report form is available on gateway or can be found in the International Health, Safety, Security and Business Continuity Guide.

I am concerned about the safety and security of the office; where can I get advice?
Speak to your line manager first. Advice can also be sought from the BBC Safety Advice Line.

I'm going to be working outside the UK; where can I get information on the legislation that applies 'in country'?
Some information can be gained from the internet (see the related links), the local British Embassy may be able to help and BBC Safety can give advice. Other sources of advice are local lawyers, local government agencies or the relevant UK based embassy.
