Pandemic Flu
The BBC understands the concern that staff
around the world have about avian and
pandemic Flu. The purpose of this guide is to clarify the
BBC's position, ensuring staff know what to do and who to
contact should they be affected in any way.
During a pandemic, the aim of the BBC, in
common with other organisations and businesses, will be to maintain
business as usual, for as long as is practical. We must, however,
be prepared for any disruption that may accompany a pandemic, in
order to protect our staff; maintain our output; and minimise the
risk of spreading the disease.
The BBC will endeavour to keep staff fully
informed of the latest medical advice about any potential pandemic
influenza virus and would expect staff to comply fully with that
advice.
If staff are personally affected by pandemic
flu, wherever possible, and subject to government advice, the BBC
will consider reasonable measures to help staff minimise risks,
recuperate from flu or care for dependants.
