Risk Assessment
Summary Requirements

Those responsible for assessing and managing risk from an activity must:

General

  • Have a suitable and sufficient risk assessment in place, whether location-specific or generic, for every work activity or situation which presents a significant risk to people
  • Consider, as appropriate, all forms of occupational risk i.e. health, safety, fire, security

Competency

  • Have completed the BBC training for risk assessment and be aware of and understand the Corporate risk assessment process and these Guidelines

When required

  • Have completed it in sufficient time to allow the risk assessment to be appropriately authorised, communicated, all precautions implemented and prior to anyone being exposed to the risks identified
Third parties
  • Obtain, check and record risk assessment information from third parties (e.g. contractors) where their activities present a significant risk to those being managed by the BBC.
Approval and authorisation
  • Ensure that no one works to a risk assessment which has not been appropriately authorised
Communication of information
  • Ensure that all persons who may be exposed to significant risk are aware of and understand the findings of the risk assessment as it relates to them
Review and monitoring
  • Ensure that compliance with the risk assessment is monitored by the responsible manager to ensure that all precautions are implemented.
  • Ensure that risk assessments are reviewed and, if necessary, amended: at least once in every 2 year period; as soon as is practical following any serious accident in an activity to which the risk assessment relates; as soon as is practical after it is known that the risk assessment is no longer relevant or appropriate
