Occupational Risk
Responsibilities
Common Questions
What is Occupational
Risk?
There are a number of risks facing the BBC.
Occupational Risks are those associated with health, safety
security and environmental management that affect people at work.
The Occupational Risk title is a way of distinguishing the topic
from financial, reputation and broadcasting risks.
How do the
responsibilities affect me?
- everyone in the organisation has responsibilities, even employees without any managerial or leadership roles.
- you must read and understand your occupational risk responsibilities as they apply to your job using the myRisks tool on Gateway.
- you must discuss the type of work you undertake and any additional responsibilities that this may give you, with your manager
- you must discuss any additional specialist responsibilities you have been asked to undertake with your manager who will add them to your portfolio.
I'm not a manager, so I don't have
responsibilities do I?
Yes you do! Everybody in employment has
responsibilities, including co-operation with management;
compliance with the BBC's instructions, procedures and control
arrangements; and taking reasonable care of themselves, co-workers
and visitors. In the BBC these are clearly defined within level 7
of the responsibilities cascade.
| What could happen if I don't take my responsibilities seriously? |
| If you ignore your responsibilities this could possibly put you, your colleagues or members of the public at risk of injury or even death. This could lead you, your department, or the BBC breaking the law and potentially facing prosecution. Therefore employees who ignore their responsibilities are likely to face reprimand or disciplinary action. |
How should I record, monitor
and audit the activities that flow from my
responsibilities?
Many of the responsibilities in my Risks have
links to management tools, such as my Risks, Magique and SAP TEM.
You should manage tasks, record activities, produce reports and
audit the processes using these tools, where appropriate. Managers
should also use my Risks to delegate responsibilities and
activities to their staff and everyone should use the action
tracker to manage actions arising.
