Health at Work - Guidance for Managers
Core Functions and Priorities
The function of occupational health is to
provide BBC Management with an integrated health management
process, including:
- pre employment health and safety screening;
- pre-placement health assessment of fitness for task where appropriate;
- health surveillance for groups at risk, identified by risk assessments;
- travel briefing and advice with travel prophylaxis and preparation;
- contact with, and advice for, those on extended sickness absence;
- liaison when necessary with GPs and medical specialists caring for our staff;
- assessment of fitness for work in those returning from absence;
- advice on rehabilitation to work, including timed, graduated programmes;
- assessment of long term fitness for work following ill health or injury;
- assessment of eligibility for ill health retirement;
- health education on work-related issues;
- information provided to senior managers about health risks and trends.
