International Working
Key Points
- The same duty of care applies, where practical, whether or not
the work is in the UK.
- Specific consideration should be given to the
local laws, standards and customs that may apply.
- Follow the laws of the land we
are operating in when anyone is undertaking international work
under the control of the BBC.
- Apply, so far as possible, the same approach as
we would in the UK.
- Follow BBC requirements so far as is reasonably
practicable.
- A good fixer is invaluable to your production.
Fixers and production companies should be assessed for competence
and may need supervision and monitoring, assistance can be found on
the
international filming database.
- It is good practice and courtesy to inform the
nearest BBC bureau of your production. They may
also be able to help your production with useful advice.
- The requirement to use a vetted
contractor for high risk activities does not apply outside the UK,
unless taking a UK based contractor.
- It must be remembered that the right to seek
compensation in a civil claim is global and that the BBC may be
prosecuted for disobeying the law in another country just as we
would be in the UK.
