Common Questions
This is defined as a country, region or
specified area subject to war, insurrection, civil unrest,
terrorism or extreme levels of crime, banditry or lawlessness,
public disorder; or areas with extreme climate or terrain.
This would include investigations involving
covert surveillance or filming and/or confrontation of terrorist,
serious criminal or extremist or violent political groups.
These would include riots, civil disturbance or
extreme public disorder, terrorist or armed criminal incidents such
as hi-jacking or sieges, any event involving chemical, biological
or radiological (CBR) substances, extreme climatic events and
natural disasters such as hurricanes, severe floods, earthquakes,
volcanic eruptions, etc. or outbreaks of serious diseases and
pandemics.
Unless the experience and previous training
negated the course, a full Hostile Environment course would be
required. For BBC staff this should be done with
the current preferred supplier.
There is no mandatory training for these areas
but some ad hoc training may be recommended during discussion
with BBC Safety.
Training would be recommended as required for
each specific deployment and this could include the Hostile
Environment course, off road driving, covert filming, civil
disorder, CBR or ad hoc deployment specific
courses.
Yes. Risk Assessments are
required for travel and activities which fall under the High Risk
Policy.
Independents, freelancers and stringers are
treated the same as BBC staff in relation to all aspects of the HR
policy.
All PPE is available from the Safety Equipment
Stores in TVC.

assistance and evacuation supplier.
