Working on or near Water
Common Questions

We are recording on a narrow boat we have hired from the London Water Bus Company what paper work do I need from this company?
Insurance, Risk Assessment, Safety advice and rules, Evidence of Competence

We are filming  along the river, there is a man there who hires rowing boats to the public, we want to hire a boat the put the presenter in it while we film from the bank?
Insurance, maintenance, safe distance from the edge, emergency arrangements, advice on local boat traffic, who can swim, safety equipment, arrangements to ensure that we are not blocking safe passage along the bank to MOPs.

I am organising a sailing away day for members of staff in my department. I have found an event company what do I need to get from them and how do I prepare the staff?
Company and type of insurance fro the company, contact BBC insurance to ensure that they are aware and happy, competency records from the company, maintenance records, training provision for BBC staff, safety advice and restrictions from the company.

I will be filming children dancing along a canal what should I put in place just in case one of them falls in.
If this is purely observational, where the BBC has had no part in organising the dance, then we should ensure that BBC staff do not cause an obstruction or put them selves at risk.

We would like to fill a water tank in a studio big enough for the presenter and one other person to fit into,  we can no longer get tanks etc from props etc, who should the set designer speak to re build regulations.
The tank needs to be fit for purpose, and so therefore designed and built by an expert.  Coordination with the studio managers is essential as electricity, emergency rescue arrangements and water escape should be considered.
