Working on or near Water
Swimming Pools and Lidos

Contact the management of the pool or lido at the early planning stage and ask them to provide the risk assessment and other relevant safety information. The HSE also have provided information on safety in swimming pools.

There may be restrictions on what can be done in or around the water. For example building scaffolding in the water, placement of mains powered electrical equipment etc. The location, on the other hand, may be able to help you, providing emergency equipment, life guards etc.

Emergency arrangements must be provided, these will depend on the complexity and the scale of the production. They could range from lifeguards, to safety divers and safety boats.

There must be restrictions on where electrical equipment may be placed regarding its proximity to the water. A standard is 3m from the water or at least the height of the equipment from the waters edge. The temperature can be extreme, so plan to have adequate clothing and shelter.

If recording around water, slips trips and falls are likely. In response to this the working pattern should be matched accordingly.
