Vetted Contractors
Common Questions
Can freelancers phone procurement directly and ask to
go on the list?
Contractors can only apply to go on the vetted list, via a BBC Production.
Contractors can only apply to go on the vetted list, via a BBC Production.
Is there a charge for getting on the
list?
Currently there is no charge, although this is
currently under review and charges may apply for the resources
required to carry out the vetting process.
There has to be a viable business need, ie
Geographical or Specialist Skill. See Section 4 - Criteria for
Getting on the List, for further guidance.
I've heard
it may be possible to use a contractor who does not appear on the
vetted list, even though it is a mandatory discipline. What is the
exception for this?
This may be accepted in circumstances of geographical
requirement or specialist skills, but this would need to be
discussed with BBC Safety/Procurement.
There used
to be more vetted contractors on the vetted list, why have these
contractors disappeared?
Following review of the vetted list, certain contractors were
removed from the main list on the basis that they had not traded
with the BBC for some time. However, these removed contractors are
still noted and anyone wishing to use a previously known contractor
should contact Ask Al - BBC Safety Advice
Line for Freelancers/Sole Traders queries, or
Procurement for Companies.
The Procurement site lists all companies, but they also have
links for the freelancers, who appear on the BBC Safety site. You
only need to go to Procurement site to access all lists.
Can I use
an individual who is employed by a company on the vetted list,
without engaging the company?
Yes you can, however you must ensure that the individual has
been through the freelance vetting process before you use
them.
I want to
use a pre vetted company but none of them will travel to the
location stipulated - what can I do?
If you cannot get a vetted person from the list and there is a
geographical need, then you should contact Procurement and nominate
the company you wish to use and then they can be vetted.
The vetted company I have engaged has
sub-contracted out the work to another company not on the list, can
I still use them?
The principal contractor has a responsibility to vet their sub
contractors, but you will still ultimately have responsibility if
work is carried out by the sub contractor which is part of the
BBC's undertaking. In these circumstances you have a responsibility
to assure yourself that the criteria and arrangements for selection
and appointment of competent contractors is in place by the
principal contractor.
I have
found a company who will give me a really good deal and they can
provide me with all the necessary paperwork. Can I use
them?
In principle, only those on the vetted list can be used.
However there are exceptional circumstances i.e geographical
circumstances or specialist skills and this should be discussed
further, with Procurement.
I used to
be on the vetted list, how do I get back on. Is it a quicker
process because I was previously on it or do I need to go through
the whole process again?
No this is not quicker and you still need to be nominated by a
BBC Production and go through the vetting procedure again.
Yes. Many freelancers set themselves up as limited companies,
but they are still on the BBC SAP system as a freelance vendor
record.
