Diving
Diving in the UK

The following requirements apply to diving when in the United Kingdom.
 
All diving for the BBC in UK waters must comply with the Diving at Work Regulations 1997. The Broadcasting industry must work to the Media Approved Code of Practice - this does not relate to construction of sets etc underwater (A dive is any activity underwater requiring any person to breathe compressed air or other gas).
 
No sports/amateur divers may be employed without the permission of the HSE unless it is a presenter, artist or contributor.
 
The Pre-vetted Diving Contractor must:
  • comply with the Diving at Work Regulations and the Media ACoP;
  • appoint a competent, qualified dive supervisor (dive safety officer), in writing, to plan and co-ordinate the dive;
  • select a team of competent divers; and
  • complete a dive project plan and suitable and sufficient risk assessment.
