This item of kit comes in the shape of a woollen tube and protects the neck and head.
THERMAL
UNDERWEAR
Helly-Hansen all-in-one, or two piece
SHIRT
Polo neck (loopstitched) Norwegian army shirt
TROUSERS
Cotton trousers (Troll Meryl type) these will dry quickly when wet
JUMPER/
FLEECE PILE JACKET
Thick woollen jumper offering neck protection, or suitable fleece pile jacket (Berghaus or Hally Hansen type)
SOCKS
Thick loopstitched woollen socks of suitable size and length. To wear over the sock in the boot, waterproof gortex socks are available.
FOOTWEAR
Stout footwear with suitable ankle support, KSB Goretex type (with Vibram soles) Sorel Mountaineering boot. All footwear should be capable of accommodating the Goretex "Yeti Gaiter" over the top of it. This will provide added waterproof protection.
QUILTED SUIT
Two piece variety (trousers & smock), should be worn when individual is likely to remain static for any length of time. Zip access at various intervals for ease of adjustment. Worn over thermal layers and underneath waterproof clothing.
GLOVES
Thermal inner gloves, contact gloves worn over the top for dextrous operations. Arctic mittens or Dachstein type to be worn over thermal inner gloves. Goretex waterproof gloves or mittens to be worn over the top of thermal mittens.
WATERPROOFS
Goretex or Aquatex provide the best waterproof cover as the fabric will allow any build up of sweat to be expelled through the material whilst still holding its waterproof/windproof integrity.
SUNGLASSES
High reflective glasses are essential to protect eyes against snowglare.
