Occupational Dermatitis

This guidance is for managers & staff who may be exposed in their work to substances which can cause skin irritations or rashes. This is known as occupational dermatitis Occupational dermatitis are skin conditions caused by a person's work.
 
Occupational dermatitis is caused by contact with certain substances at work, however, you can also get dermatitis from many things that you are exposed to outside of work.
 
Occupational dermatitis occurs when a substance you work with causes direct chemical or physical damage to your skin. Damage occurs when a substance penetrates the surface layer of the skin & causes a reaction.
 
It is different to what is known as Atopic Dermatitis. This is a condition which is often associated with a personal or family history of asthma, eczema and other conditions.
