Medical Conditions
Key Points
Trauma
- Trauma is a core part of the work of the BBC, and to prepare and support staff appropriately, the BBC is no different from police forces, the military, the ambulance and other rescue services which respond to trauma.
- Everyone responds differently to trauma, though people generally start feeling better within a few weeks.
- Getting professional help can be important in some cases, but research now shows that the best way to deal with trauma is good and mutually-caring teamwork, good management, and support and care from families and friends.
- It's impossible entirely to prevent post-traumatic stress reactions, but as a manger there are things you can do to lessen the chance that such reactions will be profound or long-lasting.
Occupational Dermatitis
- Complete a COSHH risk assessment to identify if there is a risk of occupational dermatitis and implement any control measures considered necessary.
- Provide the appropriate information, instruction and training to your staff who may be exposed to the substances.
- The BBC has a legal duty, where relevant under the RIDDOR Regulations, to report cases of occupational dermatitis to the appropriate enforcing authority.
- Contact BBC HR Direct for further advice.
