Common Questions

Do I need to have done the Hostile Environment course?
Not necessarily but many disasters do fall under High Risk Policy and so a member of the High Risk Team should be consulted.

What equipment will I need?
There could be a range from first aid kits, anti stab vests, life vests and satellite phones. This should be discussed with a member of the High Risk team.

How do I help prevent illness?
In many disasters there will be a risk of a whole range of diseases. This should be discussed with the BBC Occupational Health Providers and the High Risk Team.

What is PTSD?
PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) is a medical condition that can result from mental trauma or stress.  Although most people are fine it can affect anyone from frontline to editing staff.  BBC Occupational Health Providers should be approached for further advice.
