Common Questions

What do I do if I suspect I am suffering from the effects of reporting on a CBR incident / attack?
Consult BBC Occupational Health Provider as soon as possible.

If I am wearing the full kit then how long can I stay in a contaminated area?
The CBR kit is to allow staff to survive temporary expose and to enable them to leave the area with a greater degree of safety.  It is not designed to allow staff to stay for extended periods and normal reporting.

Can I go inside a cordon if I feel it is safe?
No.  The cordon set up should only be crossed if a member of the authorities deems it safe to do so.  Any reporting from the cordon requires the agreement of a senior manager in news after consultation with BBC Safety.

How do I know what type of chemical or agent it is?
Often you may not and there remains the possibility that an incident involving relatively inert substances which could produce highly toxic one if mixed.  Advice must be sought from the authorities if available and BBC Safety who may contact the CBRN team for more specialised advice.

How do I know what the latest Threat Assessment is?
Threat assessments could be gained from Corporate Security for UK and non-hostile locations, and the front page of the BBC Safety website and the High Risk Team for the remainder.
