Lighting and Location Lighting
Options, Home or Abroad

SHOOTING OUTSIDE THE UK:
  • BBC vetted lists do not apply outside of the UK unless the lighting company involved is UK based and travelling overseas.
  • Overseas companies must have their suitability, competence and experience checked before engagement.
  • Different power limits apply to the amount of lighting a camera person can safely use without an electrician depending on the overseas location.  However, the safety checks and practice detailed below will still prove helpful.
  • Consult your production safety advisor in advance regarding the above.
SHOOTING INSIDE THE UK:

OPTIONS AVAILABLE
Production location lighting is divided into three options designed to enable different scales of requirement:
  • Up to 2kW (total) of lighting for staff camera people who have passed the BBC basic DV (Digital Video) lighting course (Typically this would be a small three light interview type kit)
  • Up to 6kW (total) of lighting for experienced Lighting Cameramen/women.
  • Over 6kW of lighting. Vetted companies are mandatory.
  • The detailed requirements for each are in : Lighting Options
