Lighting and Location Lighting
Key Points

Key points for any use of location lighting will include:
  • Appropriate number of people with formal electrical qualification and/or experience for safe use of equipment.
  • Maintenance checks and P.A.T. (portable appliance test) certification for each item of electrical equipment.
  • Correct siting and use of a generator.
  • Testing of intended power sources for suitability (e.g. Martindale tester).
  • Informed knowledge of the safe distribution of mains power.
  • Considered cable management.
  • Consideration of controls necessary for the safety of others coming into contact with lighting equipment.
  • Manual handling pre-planning  e.g. reducing risk by checking availability of lifts, trolleys, appropriate access routes and numbers of people for kit to be carried.
  • Sufficient time scheduled for hot lights to cool down, protective gloves, and safe rig/derig of equipment - particularly where difficult access or working at height situations prevail.
  • Laser management.
  • Strobe lighting management.
