Programme Type
DIY and Makeover Programmes
This guideline provides
programme makers and others with health and safety information
specific to the DIY / makeover genre. It covers many subject
areas from practical DIY activities
(e.g. hiring of hydraulic platforms,
working with ladders, etc), to production activities where DIY work
is being carried out (e.g. managing a DIY programme, use of cameras
and lights in construction
areas).
The guideline applies to
any construction / DIY activities associated with programme
production, whether the work is carried out in domestic, public or
commercial premises, and whether the work is carried out by talent,
staff, contractors or members of the public. The information should
be used in conjunction with the more detailed information on the
ORM website.
Points to
remember:
- Ensure that if using a trade person to do the work that they are competent.
- Contractors must provide a risk assessment for their work.
- If more than one set of contractors are used, they must communicate their risks to one and other.
- Establish a set of site rules which reflect the nature of the work, environment and the individuals on site.
- There should be one person in over all charge of the building work.
- All those on site, builders and production follow the site rules.
- The Director must consider the impact of the building work on their crew.
- Discuss the nature of the work with your ORM Safety Advisor.
- Ask the question; Do the CDM Regulations apply?
- The production must do a risk assessment.
Information on this site
relates to DIY and Makeover programmes, however further information
on Construction
should also be taken in to
account. Issues arising out of this include the
competency of contractors and the Construction, Design and Management Regulations
(CDM), which could havean impact
upon the production.
