Common Questions

What are the contents of a Building Security manual?
There are a number of premises related security items that are kept on file, such as risk assessments, contact numbers, etc.

What does property security cover?
The minimum and recommended security measures for new build, existing sites and buildings, those developed for the BBC by their strategic property partners and some programme locations.

What is an SIA Licence?
It is a mandatory requirement of the Security Industry Act for people working as security officers, door supervisors, etc., and their supervisors and managers, in the private security industry.  It shows that criminal records, and other checks, have been carried out by the Security Industry Authority (SIA).  It does not apply to in-house security staff.

How do I protect BBC equipment?
To prevent theft of BBC high value equipment, use one of the recommended methods of permanently marking it.  It may also be necessary to physically secure it to the shelf or desk.

For further details and the procurement contact see Annex A of Security CoP 11.

Can I take BBC property home?
Yes, with the consent of your line manager, but not without a removal permit to show to security if challenged.  This is to maintain a paper trail of BBC assets, and to prove that the item is being removed legitimately not stolen.
