Management of Security
Common Questions

How does my Division organise security?
Every BBC Division has a person who represents it for security matters.  There will be a Division Security Risk Assessment for the risks to the business and this provides the information about threats and assets of the business to help with programme and premises security risk assessment.

Who is responsible for security provision?
The Head of BBC Safety reports to the Director of BBC People on security and safety matters.  Others on the Board of Management, and ultimately the Director General are responsible.  The BBC Head of Corporate Security works to the Head of BBC Safety as specialist advisor.

Who is responsible for security on location?
The programme Producer is responsible in the studio and on location.  The Head of Corporate Security will give advice tailored to any programme activity.  Contact via Ask Al - Safety Advice Line initially.

Who is responsible for security in the workplace?
A senior Facilities Manager is the responsible person for security matters at BBC premises in the UK.  The Head of Corporate Security liaises with BBC Workplace, which is the interface with Facilities Management provision.

Who monitors security incidents?
The Head of Corporate Security is copied incident reports from around the BBC, and is the principle advisor when a security situation is unfolding.  It is essential that he be informed of any security incident that might have implications for the rest of the BBC.  During office hours he can be contacted via Ask AL - Safety Advice Line or the Television Centre Duty Facilities Manager at any other time.

Who co-ordinates serious incidents?
At the scene, there will be an Incident Manager, normally the Facilities Manager (Duty Facilities Manager in London) or the line manager at island sites.  For serious security incidents likely to affect business continuity, the BBC's Business Continuity Disaster Recovery Team (BCDRT) coordinates responses.  The Head of Corporate Security will liaise with them.
