Assessing the Risk - Risk Assessment
Where weapons are to be used during the
production, the risk assessment must set out the controls that will
be in place to address the hazards identified. Where an armourer or
other weapons specialist is engaged that person should contribute
to the assessment and endorse it. The significant findings must be
communicated to all members of the production.
If the weapons include replicas or deactivated
weapons provided without an Armourer the assessment must be
provided to the company supplying the deactivated weapons.
Hazards associated with firearms are as follows:
- Flying objects, e.g. shotgun pellets, bullets, arrows;
- Noise;
- Delayed firing after misfires;
- Burns;
- Inhalation of smoke.
Note:People have been
severely injured or killed by blanks.
Hazards associated with these and other weapons
are:
- Penetration wounds
- Cuts and abrasions
- Bruises and concussion
- Public distress
- Police response to apparent emergency
- Theft or loss.
