Weapons and Amourers
Security of Weapons
The security of firearms is the responsibility
of the person in legal possession of the firearms or other weapon.
This may be an armourer, police officer, member of the armed
forces, etc.
Whenever firearms are transported the local
police must be notified.
Where an Armourer is not present the
responsibility for security of the weapon is the Producers and
managerial arrangements must be put in place. These arrangements
will include emergency procedures to deal with all reasonably
foreseeable risks on location. This will also be the case for
replica or deactivated weapons.
The Producer must ensure that the weapons are
secure:
- there must be a dedicated and named person responsible for the security of the weapon at all times (including the collection, storage, transportation and safe return)
- the named person will accompany the weapon if it is to be moved e.g. a courier cannot collect it on behalf of the production
- when not in use the weapon is locked in a secure case which is stored in a locked room with restricted access
If any weapon is lost or stolen the local
police must be informed immediately. Persons
must not be permitted to leave site until the weapon is recovered
or the police arrive and have granted permission for those involved
to leave.
