Training for Children

Health and safety training should be integrated into the training that the children receive to take part in productions or work experience programme.

Induction training is essential and should cover:
  • Who will be supervising them.
  • Who to speak to if they are uncertain or need advice.
  • What to do if they have an accident.
  • Their responsibilities.
  • What to do in an emergency e.g. fire.
The training style at work is generally different from what they are used to at school or college. So training needs to be properly targeted. It should cover:
  • the key points for them to remember;
  • how any equipment, they are to use, works;
  • the hazards involved;
  • the safety features;
  • what to do if they have any problems with the equipment;
  • how their understanding is checked and be recorded.
In the case of a production training is carried out before rehearsals start. This may help them to relax and become familiar with their surroundings.
