Smoke obscuration density should not be such as to affect vision on means of escape in case of fire.
Where the building has an automatic fire detection system installed the smoke effect should not interfere with normal operation wherever possible. Isolation of detectors should be as a "last resort" only and not a normal practice. Some fire detectors (ionisation) are less sensitive to cosmetic smoke than others (optical). Any isolation of fire detectors should be strictly controlled by building management.
