  • A risk assessment must be completed before any event takes place which will involve the abstraction or discharge from controlled waters.
  • An abstraction licence is required in order to abstract water.
  • Discharge consent must be held for any discharges to controlled waters.
  • Measures must be put in place to control and monitor discharges in order to demonstrate compliance with any consent.
  • Measures must be in place to ensure that any contractors working on site are aware of, and comply with, restrictions applying to discharge of effluents into drains.
  • All BBC premises must have up to date drainage plans covering both foul and surface water drainage up to the point of discharge from the premises.
  • Trade effluent consents are required if you are releasing contaminated water into the sewage network.
  • Adequate provision must be made for oil separators and their maintenance where oil or diesel is being handled at BBC sites.
