Working Hours
Fatigue and freelancers

One of the issues a Producer may have to face is the presence of those who have been contracted for a specific programme but who have work and obligations outside the contract e.g. a freelance camera person. The main point is to be clear about the expectations and explain the arrangements for contingencies. Freelances have the same duties of care for themselves and those who may be affected by their work as any employee. To demonstrate reasonable care put in place the following:
  • Education and information;
  • Specify for the period of the contract the work that is expected e.g. will it include a period of driving for which the individual needs to be alert;
  • The arrangements in place in the event of an overrun e.g. a hotel room will be booked.
