Working Hours
Self Op and DV Camera operations
Self-Op can be an extremely physical activity
but no-one is obliged to work excessive hours. Staff who may have
to work long hours without direct supervision must be trained to
recognise the signs of fatigue and be able to take appropriate
measures to reduce the risks.
Everyone needs to take regular breaks to
maximise their creativity and to minimise the possibility of stress
and fatigue. Self-Op often involves building an intense
professional relationship between yourself and your contributor -
don't get distracted and forget to take a break, or to eat and
drink regularly.
The temperature and weather conditions at the
location, high levels of noise and large crowds of people are
factors that can contribute to fatigue, quite apart from the length
of the working day, and should be taken into account when planning
a shoot.
Plan for the whole shoot, including adequate
breaks and if you know that food and beverages won't be available
on location, be sure to take them with you. Remember that the
working day doesn't end when you stop shooting - you still need to
pack away the kit and travel home.
Further details can be found in the Self-Op Shooting section.
