Electronic Security
The installation and usage of electronic
security systems will include intruder detection systems, access
control systems, security CCTV, panic alarm systems where
appropriate, emergency voice evacuation (EVES) where appropriate,
dedicated security mobile radio networks, etc.
Specialist advice should always be taken from
the Head of Corporate Security where installation, upgrading or
usage of such systems is considered.
A specification for the design and operation of
security control rooms is available, which also covers the
requirements of Assignment Instructions and Control Room
Procedures.
The requirement for a security CCTV system at
locations occupied by the BBC and owned and managed by them, its
property partners, or landlords will follow a security risk
assessment. This will indicate the type of system, and areas
to be covered, should the risk assessment indicate that the cost of
installation and operation of CCTV is justified.
Security CCTV systems must be designed and
operated in accordance with the requirements of the Data Protection
Act (DPA), including the correct signage, access, and image
handling methods.
The Information Commissioner has now issued a
code of practice, which gives specific guidance on the application
of the Act for security CCTV systems and additional information is
available from Head of Corporate Security.
