Audience and Visitor Security
Tours
The security requirements that will apply to
tours are graded in accordance with the BBC Security Response Level in force at the
time:
- NORMAL - OK, subject to security risk assessment.
- HEIGHTENED - reviewed as necessary.
- EXCEPTIONAL - probable cancellation.
There are four categories of formal tours
organised by the BBC, mainly of Television Centre, which are:
- VIPs
- Staff Induction tours
- Schools and organised groups
- Individuals and families
In addition there are Public Open Days, such as
Heritage Open Day/London Open House, and Special Events Programmes
at BBC premises.
The BBC Television Centre Tours management team
and Head of Corporate Security regularly review the security risk
assessment to ensure the most secure routes are used when
conducting tours.
At other BBC sites tour managers must carry out
a Security Risk Assessment and take the following points into
consideration:
- Subject to the BBC Security Response Level in place.
- Set a maximum number of participants, taking the security of the site into account.
- Tour guides may refuse admission should there be any doubt caused by search results or behaviour patterns by an individual or group.
- Security searches will be carried out in accordance with the BBC Stop & Search Policy.
- Hand held scanning and bag checks by hand will be carried out at locations without permanent search facilities.
- The BBC reserves the right to refuse admission.
- Tour guides must always be able to account for all visitors.
- In the case of school children, teachers are to accompany the tour and have responsibility for the children's welfare and behaviour. You should also consider additional supervision depending on numbers and circumstance.
