Liquid Wastes (Including Catering Waste)
Catering wastes must be contained and disposed of so as to prevent pollution, for cooking oils see Oil and Chemical Storage, for waste water disposal see Water Abstraction and Disposal.

Paint wastes, including those generated from studio floors, must be stored and disposed of so as to prevent pollution.

This would include:

  • Storing liquid paint wastes in an area where spillages will be contained. This will either be within a secure building or within an impermeable bund, which will contain at least 110% of the volume of the largest tank or 25% of the total volume being stored, whichever is the greatest.
  • Protecting the storage facility from vandalism e.g. liquid paint waste should be stored within a secure area.
  • Ensuring that all collections of liquid paint waste are supervised.
  • Ensuring that spill kits and other containment equipment suitable for the type of liquid paint waste stored on site are available locally.
  • Please also see the guidance on Contaminated Land.

As of 30th October 2007, liquid non-hazardous wastes can no longer be sent directly to landfill, but must be pre-treated first. The section on Waste Pre-treatment  provides more details.
