Hazardous Waste Premises
Notification
Any site/outside broadcast/production
location/live events producing Hazardous Waste in England and Wales
have a legal duty to register as a Hazardous Waste Producer with
the Environment Agency. When hazardous waste is produced at,
or removed from a premises, that premises must be registered with
the Environment Agency, unless the premises is an office producing
less than 200 kgs in any one year. The registration will usually be
undertaken by the waste carrier however the premises must be
registered in the BBC's name. Each premise registered will be given
a unique registration number or 'premises code' which must be given
to the waste carrier taking the waste.

In Scotland and Northern Ireland hazardous
waste is known as special waste and local controls apply. Further
information can be obtained from the Scottish Environment
Protection Agency and the Environment and Heritage Service in
Northern Ireland.
When hazardous waste is consigned for
transport, the producer and the carrier must complete a consignment
note which fully describes the waste. Copies of this note
must be retained on file for at least 3 years by the producer of
the waste so an audit trail can be identified when requested.
