Chemical Storage (Including Paint)

The minimum requirements for chemical storage:

All chemicals must be stored in an area where spillages will be contained; this must either be within a secure area of the building which would contain a spillage or within an impermeable bund, which must contain at least 110% of the volume of the largest tank or 25% of the total volume being stored, whichever is the greatest.
Any chemicals stored on site must meet the BBC's requirements in relation to Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (CoSHH).
Accumulated rainwater within bunded areas must be removed regularly and if contaminated it must be dealt with as Hazardous Waste.
The installation should be protected from vandalism e.g. chemicals must be stored within a secure area.
All deliveries of chemicals must be supervised by a competent member of staff to ensure containers are not overfilled and that the chemicals are delivered to the correct areas.
Emergency plans are required to cover chemical storage, and this is must include the provision of spill kits and drain covers.
