Wildlife Protection Whilst on Location

Guidance for outside broadcasts, locations and events includes:
  • Taking all practical steps to ensure that a site or location is left in the same condition as it was when you arrived.
  • Precautions must be taken around trees and hedgerows as they are habitats belonging to many different kinds of wildlife.
  • Precautions must be taken when working within Special Area of Conservation (SAC) as it is an offence to disturb habitats of protected species.
  • Precautions must be taken when working within or near a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
  • Ensuring that gates are shut if they have been opened to prevent the escape of animals.
  • Ensuring that staff do not enter onto land unless permission has been gained from the landowner and that you aware of any potential environmental risks.
Any work on a building or structure where a bat is roosting or hibernating must only be undertaken after seeking specialist advice. It is an offence to disturb roosting or hibernating bats.  For general advice or information contact Ask Al - Safety Advice Line.
