Fuel Storage for Temporary Generators and Location Filming
The following steps must be taken to ensure
environmental protection to the surrounding area:
- Fuel storage cans, tanks and generators must be sited on a hard impermeable surface resistant to the product stored. If a hard surface/concrete is not available it is practicable to site generators on track way. Further information on Oil and Chemical Storage can be found here.
- Secondary containment must be used to prevent spillages. Examples include double skinned tanks or drip trays where more than 200 litres of oil is being stored [one barrel]
- The storage tanks should be protected from vandalism e.g. a secure area where temporary fencing has been erected to ensure protection.
- The generator hire company must ensure that the oil is delivered to the right tank, tanks are not overfilled and that a record of the volume of oil delivered is retained on site.
- The generator hire company should inspect the facility during re-fuelling to check for potential leaks, tanks etc and a record including any remedial actions should be retained on site.
- Spill kits (which contain absorbents to soak up liquid) and drain covers (used to place over nearby drains so water is not polluted) must be present to ensure the containment of spills. Information on Environmental incidents and spillage response plans can be found here.
