Assessment of New Sites

The BBC must take all reasonable steps to identify contaminated land before the purchase of any premises. This would include employing a competent body to assess the nature of the ground conditions, nature and magnitude of any potential contamination. Appropriate measures are required in the procurement process before the BBC purchases the site in order that the BBC does not become liable for any historic pollution as a landowner/occupier where the original polluter cannot be traced (for general advice or information contact Ask Al - Safety Advice Line).
