Working Hours

Those who manage or schedule the work of others and also those who self-schedule need to be aware of the risks of long working hours and fatigue.  Most BBC staff decide for themselves how long they work although there are some whose work is scheduled.  Schedules are usually designed within specific parameters.  Schedules which fall outside the parameters need approval from a member of management senior to, and not directly associated with, those preparing the schedule.  No-one is obliged to work excessive hours.  Staff who may have to work long hours without direct supervision, must be trained to recognise the signs of fatigue and take appropriate measures to reduce the risks.
