Fire Safety During Contractor's Operations

The guidance applies to all BBC Workplaces where construction work takes place.  The recommendations apply to small works as well as larger projects.

 

Construction work usually results in a higher than normal level of fire risk.  Combustible materials and flammable liquids and adhesives are usually present and some of the processes involved produce heat, sparks and flame.  Also, buildings under construction or refurbishment are particularly vulnerable to fire.  Construction site fires have resulted in some of the largest insurance claims ever recorded.
